About Duncan Wong

Duncan Wong, born from an artistic family in San Francisco, California, began his yogic path as a teenager, seeking solace from his combative youth. His yogic roots are founded in the Ashtanga Vinyasa lineage, which lead him to New York City where he studied under Sri Sharon Gannon and Sri David Life of the Jivamukti Yoga Center, and Sri Eddie Stern of the Patanjali Yoga Shala. His extensive time in Mysore, India, with ashtanga vinyasa grand master Sri K. P. Jois, led to his authorization to teach his system.

Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is the yogic backbone of the Yogic Arts system.

Certified in the Jivamukti Yoga method, after extensive training and international touring with co-creators and spiritual parents, Sharon Gannon and David Life, who he attributes his asana-goddess connection, and the philosophic base of his work, which also draws deeply from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

Throughout his twenties, Duncan experienced intensive training in competitive combat, under his life-long sword mentor and primary life teacher, Kwahn Jang Nym, S.J. Su, of the Korean Kuk Sool Won martial arts family line, where he received his black belt teaching degrees and Buddhist influence. Duncan’s dual edged path found common ground through his exploration into the Thai and Shiatsu massage therapies.

Yogic Arts was born from the synthesis of this trinity of disciplines, which share roots that extend back to prehistory. Combining intuitive touch, energy dynamics and alignment principles with contemporary and traditional musical tracks, the practice is deepened and enhanced by the Thai Vinyasa assists that Duncan offers throughout his work.

Duncan’s experience of Kundalini Shakti-pat, or awakening of source energy, from his realized master, Sri Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, is where he both derives and attributes his flow of healing energy. His magnetic attraction to the celebrated leaders of global popular and spiritual culture, reflect his natural style of excellence and ability to support people manifesting greatness in their lives. He welcomes all healer-warriors with basic athletic ability, an open heart and a light spirit.

Duncan Wong has the combined practice and teaching experience of 30+ years, and is the creator of the internationally recognized Yogic Arts system. When not expanding his global Yogic Arts community, Duncan divides his time between his two studios in Tokyo and Shanghai, Lotus8+Studio <www.lotus8.co.jp> and Namaste Yoga Shala <www.namasteyoga.com.cn>; the latter, an antiquated five-story Yoga and Pilates garden mansion adjacent the oldest Tibetan Tantric temple in Shanghai, serves as the Yogic Arts Intra-Asian headquarters.
